Nursery and Baby Tips

Stronger together in motherhood

Stronger together in motherhood

Motherhood looks different for every woman. But one thing is for sure, motherhood completely changes your life, in both expected and unexpected ways.  This International Women’s Day, we spoke with three iL Tutto mums – Carly, Dayna and Shalena – about their journeys into motherhood and the support they’ve found along the way. The constant in their stories is the importance of their village and the women around them on their journey.  Carly: finding strength in experience and support Carly became a mum to two little ones in quick succession. While her first birth with Lila – now 2.5 years old – was relatively straightforward, her second – son Max, now one – was much more complex. After going into labour knowing her baby’s cord was wrapped around his neck, she eventually had an emergency caesarean, which was followed by a postpartum haemorrhage. Despite the challenges, she came out of the experience with a deeper sense of confidence and perspective. “The second time around, I felt more confident to be able to advocate for myself,” she explains. “But in the end, I realised that it’s completely out of your hands.” Recovery was very different the second time around. With a toddler at home and a caesarean to recover from, even simple things became harder. “The difference in recoveries was a bit of a shock to the system,” she says. “I couldn’t lift my daughter. My husband ended up needing to take four weeks off because I simply couldn’t do what I could do the first time.” During those long days and nights, her iL Tutto Chelsea Electric Recliner Glider Nursery Chair in Egg Shell became a constant. “I lived in my iL Tutto chair,” she recalls. “Whether you’re breastfeeding or bottle feeding, you’ll be so thankful to have the support of the nursery chair for those middle-of-the-night feeds. “It was definitely helpful for my caesarean recovery and it absolutely saved my back.” More than anything, Carly credits the women around her for helping her navigate early motherhood. “It’s nice to be able to rely on others’ experiences and know that what you’re going through is normal,” she says. “It’s been really empowering to know that my friends are there and have been through the same experience as me.” “I’ve got some great girlfriends that don’t have kids of their own, but they treat my kids like they are their own. It’s so important who you surround yourself with.” Dayna: finding your people For Dayna, motherhood was always the dream. After experiencing a miscarriage before her first son, she went on to welcome two boys close together in age – Atlas, now 20 months old and Ledger, just 3 weeks old. While she describes her first birth as smooth, her second took an unexpected turn. “The birth was everything that I didn’t think it was going to be,” she recalls. “I ended up going in for an emergency C-section. But he’s here and he’s happy and healthy.” She speaks openly about the emotional side of pregnancy and early motherhood. “I struggled a fair bit with pregnancy, both times,” she says. “As much as I love and appreciate what the woman’s body really can do, I still found it quite mentally a struggle.” This time around, one thing was certain: she wanted a nursery chair, saying it was a non-negotiable after not having one for her first baby. She chose the iL Tutto Frankie Electric Nursery Chair in Taupe Teddy, not realising just how much she would love it. “I’m surprised how much I love that it’s electric,” she explains. “The recline is silent and I can plug my phone in when I’m nursing in the middle of the night so I’ve got everything I need right next to me.” Perhaps the biggest change for Dayna since becoming a mum has been her friendships. “Before becoming a mum, I struggled with friendships,” she says. “But since becoming a mum, I have found my circle. I would consider these women to be my family now.” Living in a smaller coastal town, finding that support network meant everything. “We talk every day and I would be lost without them,” she says. Shalena: a long road to motherhood For Shalena, the journey to motherhood took time. After more than two years of trying to conceive, she was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and eventually turned to IVF. “We were trying for about two and a half years,” she says. “Then we decided to go down the IVF route and we were very lucky and very blessed to have Arlo in our first round.” Now she describes her son – 10-month-old Arlo – as “my little miracle baby and everything I’ve ever hoped for.” She opted for a planned caesarean so family could be present and to help ease her own anxieties. The experience was calm and positive, and she found recovery manageable with the right support around her. Her iL Tutto nursery chair quickly became part of daily life. “With the caesarean recovery, the chair was comfortable and made it easier to manage,” she recalls. “It’s so easy to get in and out while holding Arlo. Everything about it was comfortable.” Becoming a mother has also changed how she sees the women in her life. “I found a whole new respect for my friends who are mums,” she says. “It gave me a whole new understanding of the sacrifices mothers make and the strength it takes to be a mother.” It also deepened her appreciation for her own mum. “It’s given me a whole new understanding of the resilience and strength she needed when she became a single mum.”

Everything you need to know about babywearing 101

Everything you need to know about babywearing 101

Babywearing is as old as parenting itself. And while modern life may look very different than it did for our early ancestors, hunting and gathering with a newborn in tow, babywearing is still just as relevant. One of the most obvious benefits of babywearing is that it frees up your hands so you can get about with your daily tasks. But it can also help to promote bonding and soothe a fussy baby.  Babywearing is one of the handiest tools you have in your parenting box of tricks. And once you understand baby carriers and how to use them, it’s also one of the simplest. In this babywearing 101 guide, we answer some common questions and give you our favourite babywearing tips. The different types of baby carriers There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to babywearing. The right carrier depends on your baby’s age, your lifestyle and what feels comfortable for you. Here’s a breakdown of the main carrier styles, along with examples of how each one works. Wrap carriers Wraps are long pieces of soft fabric that are wrapped and tied around the body to create a snug, supportive pocket for your baby. They’re particularly popular for newborns, offering a secure and womb-like environment. Wraps distribute weight evenly across your shoulders and back and the fabric molds to both your body and your baby’s. Try the Boba Classic Wrap, made from a supremely soft French Terry cotton and spandex blend, it’s suitable for babies up to 15kg. Ring slings Ring slings are made from a single length of woven fabric threaded through two rings to create an adjustable pouch. Worn over one shoulder, they’re quick to put on and ideal for short trips, feeding on the go or keeping your baby close at home. They offer a snug fit for newborns and small babies, and can also be used for hip carries as your baby grows. Because the weight is carried on one shoulder, they’re best for shorter periods of wear. Try the Boba Ring Sling, made from a luxurious linen and bamboo viscose blend, it’s suitable for newborns through toddlers (up to 16kg). Hybrid carriers Hybrid carriers combine the comfort of a wrap with the convenience of a more structured design. They often have pre-sewn sections or clips, which means less tying and faster setup. These carriers can be a great option for parents who want the softness and comfort of a wrap with easy fit and adjustability. Try the Boba Bliss, made from a soft and breathable cotton and spandex blend, it’s suitable from birth to 18 months (or up to 16kg). Adjustable/structured carriers These carriers use buckles, straps and padded panels to support your baby’s weight. They’re highly adjustable, so they can be used from newborn through to toddlerhood (sometimes with an infant insert, depending on the brand). Many allow for multiple carry positions, including front, hip and back, making them ideal for longer outings or older babies. Try the Boba X, a structured carrier that grows with your child, with adjustable seat and panel settings to support your baby at every stage. When can a baby face forward in a carrier? Forward-facing babywearing can be a fun stage. Your baby gets to look out at the world and interact more with their surroundings. But it’s important to wait until they’re developmentally ready. Most experts recommend waiting until your baby is: Around 6 months old Able to hold their head up independently Showing strong neck, core and upper body control Sitting up unassisted or nearly so It’s also important to limit forward-facing sessions to shorter durations, as this position doesn’t provide the same neck and spinal support as inward-facing. Some babies can also become overstimulated when carried forward-facing. Not all baby carriers support forward-facing use. Wrap and hybrid carriers like the Boba Classic Wrap and Boba Bliss are designed for inward-facing wear only.  Is babywearing safe for a newborn? Yes, when used correctly, baby carriers can be a safe and supportive way to carry a newborn. In fact, many parents find babywearing helps soothe and settle their newborns, while also supporting skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding. Here are some key safety points to keep in mind: Use a carrier that’s newborn-approved. Wraps and hybrid carriers are generally ideal for the early weeks, as they mould to your baby’s body and allow for close contact. Structured carriers may require a newborn insert – always check the manufacturer’s age and weight recommendations. Support the head and neck. Newborns can’t yet hold their heads up, so the carrier must provide gentle but firm head and neck support. Position your baby correctly. Their hips should be in the “M” position with knees higher than their bottom and thighs supported. This is important for healthy hip development. Keep the airway clear. Follow the T.I.C.K.S. guidelines for safe babywearing: Tight In view at all times Close enough to kiss Keep chin off the chest Supported back Carriers like the Boba Classic Wrap and Boba Bliss are designed to provide the support newborns need, with fabrics that gently hold your baby in a natural, ergonomic position. How to wrap a newborn in a sling If you’ve never used a wrap before, learning to tie one can feel a little daunting. But once you’ve practiced a few times, it becomes second nature. Here’s a basic overview of how to use a stretchy wrap carrier: Find the centre of the wrap and place it across your chest, like a sash. Bring the ends over your shoulders to form an “X” on your back. Cross the ends in front of your body and tuck them under the centre band. Wrap the ends around your waist and tie a double knot at your back or side. Place your baby inside the crossed fabric panels on your chest, ensuring their legs form an “M” shape and their back and neck are supported. Stretchy wraps like the Boba Classic Wrap are ideal for beginners because they can be pre-tied and adjusted easily. Always check that your baby is high enough to kiss, has a clear airway, and is seated securely. Discover your perfect babywearing fit Whether you’re looking for hands-free freedom or a way to soothe your newborn through the fourth trimester, babywearing is the answer. Making Bedtime Fun Again: How Role Play Can Help Your Toddler Sleep Better

Making Bedtime Fun Again: How Role Play Can Help Your Toddler Sleep Better

Turning Bedtime Battles into Bedtime Bliss If bedtime has started to feel like a nightly battle, you’re not alone. For many parents of toddlers, evenings can bring resistance, big emotions, and endless negotiations. But what if bedtime could become something your child looks forward to? One of my favourite ways to help toddlers transition calmly into bedtime is through role play — especially when paired with a visual bedtime chart. This simple combination builds connection, predictability, and calm. The Power of Visual Routines Toddlers thrive on structure and a sense of control. A visual bedtime chart gives them both. Together, you can create a step-by-step guide that shows what happens each night — bath time, brushing teeth, pyjamas, reading a story, and hopping into bed. When toddlers can see what’s coming next, it removes the guesswork (and a lot of the power struggles that often follow). Instead of being told what to do, they feel included and capable, which helps bedtime flow more smoothly. A calm and connected bedtime routine can make evenings feel easier for everyone. Bringing It to Life Through Role Play Once the bedtime chart is made, it’s time to make it fun. Role play lets your child practise the bedtime routine in a light-hearted, hands-on way. This could look like acting out bedtime with a favourite doll or teddy — choosing pyjamas, reading a story, giving a cuddle, and tucking them in. By doing this, toddlers step into the “grown-up” role, learning what to expect through play rather than instruction. They begin to associate bedtime with comfort and connection, not resistance or stress. Encouraging imaginative play helps little ones build confidence and emotional understanding. Meet the Mini CoZee: The Perfect Bedtime Buddy That’s where the Mini CoZee Bassinet by il Tutto comes in. This beautifully made, toy-sized version of the CoZee Breezeco-sleeper lets little ones tuck in their own “baby” for the night — just like mum or dad. Read a bedtime story to their teddy or doll Help them get ready for “bed” with their Mini CoZee Whisper goodnight before lights out It’s a sweet, nurturing way for toddlers to practise calm, connected bedtime habits — turning what used to be a challenge into something meaningful and fun. Turning Battles into Bedtime Bliss By blending structure (with a visual bedtime chart) and imagination (through role play with the Mini CoZee Bassinet), bedtime can shift from stressful to serene. Because at the end of the day, children learn best through play — and when bedtime feels safe, predictable, and even a little magical, everyone sleeps a little better.

Preparing for a New Baby: How Role Play Can Help Older Siblings Adjust

Preparing for a New Baby: How Role Play Can Help Older Siblings Adjust

Bringing a new baby home is an exciting time — but it can also be a big adjustment for older siblings. Suddenly, there’s a lot of attention on the baby, new routines to follow, and changes that can feel confusing for little ones. That’s where role play can make a world of difference. Through play, toddlers and preschoolers can explore what life with a new baby might look like — how babies sleep, why they need gentle care, and how they can be involved as the proud “big sibling.” Enter the Mini CoZee Bassinet by il Tutto. The Mini CoZee Bassinet — a toy version of il Tutto’s popular CoZee Breeze co-sleeping bassinet — is more than just adorable. It’s a powerful tool for sibling preparation. Children can use it during play to: Learn about safe sleep practices — like how babies sleep on their backs in their own sleep space. Practise gentle care — tucking in their doll or teddy, singing lullabies, and using their quiet voices. Feel involved — while parents tend to the newborn, big brother or sister can care for their own “baby” alongside you. This type of role play nurtures empathy, responsibility, and understanding — and helps reduce feelings of jealousy or exclusion. It turns what could be a tricky transition into a confidence-building experience. And as a bonus, the Mini CoZee Bassinet makes a thoughtful and special gift for a new big sibling — something that feels just as exciting and meaningful as the baby’s arrival itself. A Sweet Step Toward Connection Whether it’s setting up their Mini CoZee next to your real one or helping their “baby” get ready for a nap, this small act of inclusion reminds your child that they’re still an important part of the family story — just with a brand-new role to play. The result? A smoother transition, a calmer home, and a big sibling who’s ready to welcome baby with open arms (and maybe a matching bedtime routine).

Focusing on Setting Up Your Child’s (and Dolly’s) Ideal Sleep Space!

Design Your Dream Sleep Space… for Dolly! When it comes to toddler sleep, play can be one of the most powerful tools in your parenting toolkit. That’s where the new Mini CoZee Bassinet by il Tutto comes in — a beautifully made, toy-sized version of the much-loved CoZee Breeze bassinet, designed especially for dolls and teddies. This sweet little bassinet isn’t just adorable — it’s the perfect invitation for creativity, connection, and meaningful conversations around bedtime. From Playtime to Powerful InsightsEncourage your toddler to design their own dream sleep space — and one for their dolly too. Set up a cosy bedtime corner together: choose the blanket, pick a favourite story, and talk about what makes dolly feel safe and ready for sleep. “What helps you feel safe at bedtime?” “What makes your bed feel cosy like dolly’s?” You might be surprised by what they share. These small, playful moments can open the door to deeper understanding and help uncover bedtime worries or sensory preferences that might be getting in the way of restful nights. Creating a calming bedtime routine can also help build consistency and comfort for both you and your little one. Empowering Toddlers to Share Their FeelingsThrough role play, toddlers often find it easier to express feelings they can’t yet fully explain. When they talk about how dolly feels — scared of the dark, needing one more cuddle, or wanting the night-light on — they’re often sharing their own experiences in a way that feels safe and without pressure. The Mini CoZee Bassinet becomes a gentle tool for emotional expression. It empowers your toddler to voice what comfort looks and feels like for them. When we understand those feelings, we can better support our little ones to feel secure and calm at bedtime. You can learn more about building connection at bedtime and how emotional safety supports healthy sleep. Learning Through ImaginationBy involving your toddler in imaginative play, you’re giving them a sense of control and confidence around sleep. They’re not just tucking dolly in — they’re learning about routines, comfort, and emotional safety in a way that feels fun and familiar. The Mini CoZee Bassinet becomes more than a toy; it’s a tool for nurturing healthy sleep habits and meaningful communication.Because bedtime doesn’t have to be a battle — sometimes, it starts with a bit of play, a lot of love, and a tiny bassinet just for dolly.

What are the best rocking chairs for nurseries?

What are the best rocking chairs for nurseries?

When you’re furnishing your nursery, your rocking chair is the one piece of furniture that’s more for you than for your baby. It’s where you’ll sit and feed for hours. Where you’ll rock them to sleep and tell them stories. With all that time spent sitting in it, it needs to be comfortable and supportive! But with so many styles to choose from, how do you know which is the best rocking chair for your nursery? We share what to look for in a nursing chair, the benefits of rocking versus gliding, and why the right accessories, like the Snuggle Me Organic nursing pillow, can make all the difference. What makes a great nursery rocking chair? The best rocking chair for a nursery should be equal parts supportive and soothing. You’ll want a chair that: Feels comfortable for long periods of sitting Provides good lower back and arm support Has a gentle rocking or gliding motion Matches your nursery style Offers practical features like USB charging ports or easy-to-care for fabrics All iL Tutto nursery chairs are designed by parents for parents with your needs in mind. The range includes some of the best nursery rocking chairs in Australia, with award-winning designs and much-loved styles. Rocking chair vs glider: what’s the difference? Often the term rocking chair is used as a catch-all term for nursery chairs. If you’re shopping for rocking chairs for nursing, it’s good to understand that most modern rocking chairs are actually gliders. While both rocking chairs and gliders help soothe your baby with movement, there are a few differences to consider: Rocking chairs move in a curved arc, giving you a more traditional back-and-forth motion. They tend to have exposed legs and a classic look. The Jonah Rocking Chair is a beautiful contemporary rocking chair in a stunning bouclé fabric. Gliders move smoothly on a fixed track, offering a more subtle, horizontal motion. They’re quieter, stable on carpet or rugs and usually have a modern aesthetic. The Frankie Electric Recliner Gliders are packed with all the mod-cons new parents could need. You’ll find a chair to suit every nursery style in the iL Tutto range. From simple and stylish chairs to luxury recliners with impressive built-in features, you’ll find an option to suit your needs. How to choose the best rocking chair for your nursery When you’re choosing your nursery chair, there are a few things to consider: 1. Space in the nursery A glider requires less space than a rocking chair but the last thing you want is to find that your nursery chair doesn’t fit in the room. Or that it’s too tight a fit and the chair doesn’t have space to glide or rock. If you have a large nursery with ample room, you have more options. For a compact space, look at chairs like the Felix Gliders. They are the smallest chairs in the iL Tutto range so you can get a beautiful chair without compromising on comfort or style. 2. Recovery needs Recovering from birth or C-section? An electric recliner chair can help you get comfortable and stand up safely without straining your core. These electric chairs also feature USB charging ports so you can charge your devices, white noise machine or even your breast pump while feeding your baby. 3. Aesthetic and longevity When you buy your nursery chair, you’re likely only thinking about using it for that first phase of parenting. But if you invest well and buy a quality chair in a timeless style, it can transition into your living room or another area of your home. iL Tutto offers a premium range of nursery chairs, all covered in luxurious Oeko-Tex fabrics for added peace of mind. The neutral colours ensure they will seamlessly blend with your other decor so you can enjoy your chair for many years to come. Pair your chair with a Snuggle Me feeding pillow To elevate your feeding experience, consider pairing your nursery chair with a Snuggle Me feeding pillow. These ergonomically designed pillows support your arms and baby’s body during feeds, helping you find a more comfortable position and reduce strain on your neck and shoulders. Whether you’re in a rocking or glider chair, a well-positioned nursing pillow can make all the difference – especially during those early cluster feeds or long overnight sessions. Snuggle Me feeding pillows are made with non-toxic, organic fabric and are incredibly soft, making them ideal for your baby’s sensitive skin. The verdict: what’s the best rocking chair for your nursery? Whether you’re looking for a traditional baby rocking chair, a modern glider with recline, or a high-tech chair with extra support, iL Tutto has an option to suit. Browse our full range of nursery chairs and find your perfect match.
